Just got back from a family, with dog, break in fabulous Sherwood Forest

Family is so important. My gorgeous but long suffering wife and I were blessed with two fantastic ‘kids’ who also have lovely partners. The family is completed by our amazing dog Mila.

We are also fortunate that both 20 odd year olds still want to come away with us, and over Easter we spent a fabulous few days in a log cabin in Sherwood Forest near Nottingham.

Obviously a certain little lady stole the show. She loved playing in the forest and our long walks in the spring sunshine.

But enough about Angela (smiley face but I don’t know how to do that on WordPress), Mila our gorgeous cockerpoo had a fab time too. Here she is enjoying herself and obviously going in the opposite direction to Ange!

While we were enjoying the walk the kids went to Go Ape and said it was brilliant, We will take their word for it. Stephen and I then went to a terrible pub in Mansfield to watch the footy where it was against the rules to smile, be polite or have any food that wasn’t junk food. The match was terrible too which I suppose served us right for abandoning Ange et al on a family trip!

We stayed in a log cabin as part of a ‘Forest Holiday’. We love them and this is the third of their places we have been to. All cabins come with a hot tub, a log burner and are really well equipped and comfortable.

There’s a CenterParks down the road but we prefer this now the kids are older and don’t need to be entertained so much.

I never knew quite how great Sherwood Forest is. There are several walks through the forest that are well signposted, separate bike trails, loads of kids activities and Go Ape. We went on a long walk each day and it was to nice to spend a few chilled hours as a family in the sunshine walking through the forest. Maybe the Scandinavians are right about  ‘forest bathing’.

There really is nowhere better than the UK when the sun shines, especially in spring.

There were some really nice pubs close by for food too. Here’s us enjoying a lovely meal at the end of another great day of family time. I would have taken another if I had realised how gormless I look on this photo!

We then finished the day with some prosecco in the hot tub, but I won’t inflict a photo of me doing that on you.

Back to work on Monday after a lovely break with family in the sunshine. Life does not get much better than that.
