I think we’ll all be glad to say goodbye to 2020, what a horrible year!
Christmas should be a time for celebration, reflection and good times with family and, if possible, friends so I thought I’d give talking about redundancies, contracts and discrimination a miss this week and write about something fabulous instead.

I was lucky this year as, although there have been some pretty awful times, I have a secret happiness weapon. This is Mila, my gorgeous cockerpoo, who some of you have inadvertently met on our Zoom calls. She does like to be the centre of attention!
Mila joined our family just over a year ago as an 8 week old bonkers puppy and immediately stole our hearts. Since then she has brought joy to every single day. She is the apple of my eye and I couldn’t imagine life without her. Even her snore is cute.
I haven’t had a dog before and never dreamt that the best way to be woken up is by her licking my face! Then when I come round she invariably has one of my socks in her mouth, head cocked to one side with a mischievous look in her eyes. It’s going to take several minutes to get that sock back but who cares.
Then there are the walks, which it is no exaggeration to say are life affirming, even in the rain. Either round the woods or the red squirrel laden pine forests and sand dunes of Formby beach, where she used to run through the puddles until one time when, in true Vicar of Dibley fashion, she disappeared in to a 2 foot deep one at full pelt. Hilarious!
I also didn’t appreciate how social walking a dog is. Everyone stops to chat and pass the time of day and, in a world where we are all so busy, this brings some perspective and grounding. Recently a lady smiled at me and just said ‘gorgeous’, I thanked her and asked if she liked my dog as well? She harrumphed and walked on!
As you’d expect from a cockerpoo, Mila constantly wants to play but she also gives the most spectacular cuddles. I defy even the hardest hard not to melt when that happens.

Next year we very much hope to buy a motor home and go away for a few days at a time walking and seeing more of our beautiful country with our fabulous new family member. Can’t wait.
If you’re considering getting a dog my advice would be that as long as you have the time to take care of it properly, just do it. You won’t regret it, it will improve your life immeasurably.
Hope you have a fabulous Christmas, and please accept our very best wishes for a safe, happy, healthy and successful 2021.
